JAKARTA (Antara) – The name of Police Commissioner General Rudy Heriyanto has recently been in the spotlight on social media. He is touted as one of the strong candidates who will replace General Listyo Sigit Prabowo as Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri).

At present, Rudy Heriyanto also has the duty as Secretary General at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, adding a long list of his experiences in the bureaucratic world.

Rudy Heriyanto Adi Nugroho, who is now widely known as Commissioner General of Police Rudy Heriyanto, was born in Jakarta on March 17, 1968. Unlike many other high-ranking officers, he was not a graduate of the Police Academy (Akpol), but rather started his police education at the National Police Officers in 1993.

His career in the police is fairly brilliant. With a long experience and solid reputation, Rudy is known as a reliable figure in handling various cases of crime, both at the national and international levels.

Before a career in the police, Rudy had time to study at the University of Lampung (Unila), majoring in law. The beginning of his professional journey was spent in the fields of investigation and law enforcement.

Rudy has also been involved in handling a number of major cases. He is trusted to oversee various important cases in the Criminal Investigation Police, including corruption, bulging investments, to money laundering.

In 2015 to 2016, Rudy served as West Jakarta Metro Police Chief. Because it was considered to have high integrity and was able to carry out his duties professionally, he was then trusted to lead the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Police in 2016 to 2017.

His career continues to climb. In 2019 to 2020, he was appointed as the Head of the Polri Legal Division, where he was responsible for the development of the institutional internal legal policy.

The peak of his leadership was seen when he held his position as the Banten Police Chief from 2020 to 2023. During his leadership period, he put forward the humanist approach and succeeded in reducing the number of crime significantly in the region.

On December 11, 2023, Rudy Heriyanto was officially appointed as Secretary General at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia. He now leads the course of the technical bureaucracy at the ministry.

His name returned to the public spotlight after being mentioned as one of the strong candidates to occupy the highest position in the police, replacing General Listyo Sigit Prabowo as the National Police Chief.
