History of Bogor Anniversary which was commemorated on June 3
JAKARTA (Antara) – Every year on June 3, the people of Bogor celebrate Bogor Anniversary (HJB). Behind this celebration, in fact holds the history of the past which became the origin of this special rainy day of the city.
The origin of the name “Bogor” also keeps many stories. There is an opinion that the term this region comes from the word “Buitenzorg”, which is the official name of the granting of Dutch officials during the colonial period.
Then, there is an opinion that links it to the word “Bahai”, which means cow because of the existence of a famous cattle statue in the Bogor Botanical Gardens. Another opinion comes from the word “bokor”, which is derived from the term tungul tree or kawung.
Then, there is an old story that records the term Bogor name comes from “Hoofd van de Negorij Bogor”, which means “Head of Bogor Village”.
The village head refers to the area which is now part of the Bogor Botanical Gardens, a historic park that has begun to be built by CGK Reinwardt since 1817.
Bogor Anniversary (HJB) came from important events that occurred more than five centuries ago. On June 3 in 1482, the Kuwedabhakti ceremony took place, a sacred inauguration that marked the coronation of Sri Baduga Maharaja as the king in the Kingdom of Pajajaran.

The Kedabhakti ceremony is also a symbol of togetherness, recognition of leadership, and the beginning of the formation of the royal order in an area now known as Bogor.
For 39 years of his rule (1482–1521), Sri Baduga Maharaja became an important figure that marked the start of the era of the glory of the Kingdom of Pajajaran.
Under his leadership, the center of the kingdom in Pajajaran developed rapidly until it reached its golden peak. King Sundanese Lastly this has also become one of the most influential rulers in the history of the Sunda Kingdom.
Race from this history, in 1972, the central government through the Plenary Session of the Bogor Level II Regency DPRD on May 26, set June 3 as the official Bogor Anniversary and celebrated every year.
Every year, HJB celebrations are often held events involving thousands of Bogor residents, including warning ceremonies, culinary bazaars, jampana processions, to traditional and modern archipelago festivals.
As the celebration event aims to increase a sense of unity, collaboration, togetherness between citizens, as well as a nostalgic event for Bogor’s history.
Every year, HJB has a special theme. In 2025, the theme of the 543th Bogor Anniversary for Bogor City was “Mercury Jagaditha”, which means the balance of the earth for mutual prosperity.
Meanwhile, the theme of Bogor’s anniversary for Bogor Regency carries “Sacangreud Pageuh, Sagolek Pangkek, Ngarojong Pangwangunan”.
This theme comes from one of the Sundanese proverbs, which means that everything must begin with a strong intention and followed by a diligent effort. Where also contains meaning about the sense of determination, the spirit of togetherness, and mutual cooperation in supporting development.
