Understanding Anumerta: Appreciation for Civil Servants and TNI who died
JAKARTA (Antara) – The term “Anumerta” often appears within the scope of the Civil Servant Profession (PNS) and the Indonesian National Army (TNI) soldiers, especially in the context of giving awards after someone dies in carrying out state duties. However, not all people understand thoroughly the meaning of this term.
In general, Anumerta is a form of appreciation given to individuals who have died as a recognition of His services and service to the state. In the context of civil servants, this award is given in the form of a promotion of one level higher than the last rank that is carried before death.
The definition of anumerta in statutory regulations
Referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2012 concerning Procedures for Submitting the right to respect and receipt of titles, services, and honors for soldiers and civil servants of the Ministry of Defense, it is stated that Anumous is an award given to members of the armed forces or civil servants who are considered to be meritorious after the person dies.
Meanwhile, the Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 99 of 2000 concerning Promotion of Civil Servants also explained that the promotion of Anemerta was valid from the date of the relevant civil servant died. In fact, the increase was determined before the body was buried as a form of state respect.

Not all civil servants are entitled to receive anmerta
Giving anumpers is not general in nature, but rather given selectively based on certain situations and conditions. In other words, not all civil servants who died automatically received anmerta awards. Only those who died while carrying out their duties and were considered to be meritorious to the country that was entitled to receive it.
Some examples of recipients, among others:
- TNI members who were killed in the battlefield,
- Teachers who died while serving in remote or inland areas,
- Civil servants who died due to work accidents while carrying out official duties.
The granting of Anumerta became a symbol of the country’s respect for the extraordinary dedication and dedication of civil servants or soldiers who died in their duties. The rank given by anumerta becomes a form of moral appreciation which also has an administrative impact, because the rank recorded in the staffing and burial documents is the rank that has been raised one level.
Influence on families left behind
Although given to civil servants who have died, the Awarding Award has an important value for the families left behind. The promotion is a symbol of honor and pride, as well as a form of respect from the state of the late or deceased.
Thus, it can be concluded that the rank of Anumerta is a very meaningful form of appreciation, even if only given in a state of sorrow. This award reflects the recognition of the state of the services and extraordinary service of every individual who has sacrificed his life for the sake of state duties.
