Black Hawk Helicopter Specifications – ANTARA News


JAKARTA (Antara) – Black Hawk military helicopter used by a number of countries, including the United States, is one of the most reliable versatile helicopters in modern military operations.

Designed and produced by Sikorsky Aircraft, Black Hawk is known for its reliability, endurance, and ability in various missions, ranging from troops transportation to medical evacuation and battle.

This helicopter has modular and sturdy specifications and designs, making it the first choice for many countries to strengthen their air military fleet.

The following specifications of the Black Hawk military helicopter

Design and performance

Black Hawk has an aerodynamic design with four main rotor blades and canned tail rotors that provide better stability and control. This helicopter was powered by two Turboshaft General Electric T700-GE-701C/D engines, each of which produced a power of 1,902 SHP (1,418 KW).

With a maximum take -off weight reaching 22,000 lb (9,979 kg), this helicopter can carry up to 11 fully armed forces or cargo charges weighing 9,000 lb (4,100 kg) externally.

Aviation performance

Black Hawk has a maximum speed of 159 knots (183 mph, 294 km/h) and cruising speeds of 152 knots (175 mph, 282 km/h). With an external fuel tank, the reach of this helicopter reaches 1,199 nautical miles (2,221 km).

This helicopter can also operate at a height of up to 19,000 feet (5,800 m) with a climbing rate of 1,646 feet per minute (8.36 m/sec).

Weapons and combat capabilities

For combat purposes, Black Hawk can be armed with various weapons systems, including:

  • Machine gun: 2 × M240 caliber 7.62 mm, M134 Minigun, or Gau-19 Gatling Gun caliber 12.7 mm.
  • Rocket: POD Hydra rocket 70 mm in configuration 7 or 19 tubes.
  • Missile: Up to 4 AGM-114 Hellfire or 2 AIM-92 Stinger per Hardpoint.
  • Other: Volcano Mines and POD M230 M230 caliber 30 mm.

Operational use

Black Hawk helicopters have been used in various military operations worldwide, including in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. Besides being used by the United States Army, various other countries also operate the Black Hawk variant according to their needs.
