The figure of Effendi Simbolon who called for Megawati to resign as chairman of the PDIP
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Effendi Simbolon, a former PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) politician, recently issued a call for the General Chair of PDIP, Megawati Soekarnoputri, to resign from her position.
This statement emerged after the Secretary General (Sekjen) of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, was named a suspect in connection with the Harun Masiku case by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
This call added to the dynamics within PDIP after Hasto Kristiyanto was caught in a case which also attracted public attention. The effect of determining suspect status was to worsen the party’s image and give rise to various reactions from internal and external circles of the PDIP.
In his statement, Effendi expressed his concern about Hasto’s situation and considered that Megawati’s leadership needed to be evaluated. He believes that Megawati’s resignation as PDIP General Chair would be the right step to maintain the party’s integrity.
Effendi’s statement received a response from PDIP. The party considers that this call is an attempt by certain parties to disrupt the internal stability of the PDIP. PDIP also highlighted the meeting between Effendi and President Joko Widodo as a factor that influenced this statement. So, who is Effendi Simbolon and his political career? The figure of Effendi Simbolon and his political career
Effendi Simbolon was born in Banjarmasin on December 1 1964 as the son of Martha br. Tobing and MM Simbolon. He is known as a politician who has had a long journey in the world of Indonesian politics.
As a member of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) from PDIP, Effendi served from 2004 to 2024. During his career, he was known as a figure who was vocal in expressing his opinions, including criticizing the policies of the government and his own party.
Effendi Simbolon’s career continued to develop rapidly, until he was successfully elected as a member of the DPR for four consecutive terms. This achievement reflects his dedication and political abilities. Apart from that, he also served as Deputy Chair of Commission VII which handled issues related to energy and the environment.
However, Effendi’s political career was not always smooth. In December 2024, he was fired from PDIP after being involved in supporting another candidate in the Jakarta gubernatorial election, as well as meeting with President Joko Widodo, which caused tension within the party.

This development reflects the increasing tension within the PDIP. This situation is in the spotlight of the public and political observers, who believe that further attention is needed to understand the political impact that may arise from this statement.
