List of Governors & Deputy Governors elected in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada was held on November 27 2024, producing pairs of Governors and Deputy Governors elected in 37 provinces in Indonesia. This election process involved 103 pairs of candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor who competed to lead their respective provinces.
The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Province did not hold regional elections like other provinces in general. This is due to the special provisions in this area, where the Governor of DIY, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, and the Deputy Governor of DIY, KGPAA Paku Alam
This decision is part of the tradition and government system in DIY which is different from other provinces in Indonesia. This system maintains DIY’s uniqueness as a region with special status, where regional head elections are not carried out through regional elections like in other provinces.
Thus, even though the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections will be held in 37 provinces, DIY is the only province that does not take part in the election process. The total number of provinces holding simultaneous regional elections this year is 37, with the people in each region playing an active role in choosing their new leaders.
