The winning party in the Depok Regional Election from 2005 to 2024

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has had a winning trend when nominating their own candidates in the regional head elections (Pilkada) in Depok City, for almost the last 20 years.

PKS’s domination in Depok began when the party took the opposite step to the Golkar Party when it nominated Nur Mahmudi Ismail in 2005, paired with Yuyun Wirasaputra.

In this election, the pair of candidates for Depok City regional head supported by the Golkar Party, namely Badrul Kamal and Syihabuddin Ahmad, suffered defeat.

In 2010, PKS and its candidate for mayor, Nur Mahmudi Ismail, succeeded in maintaining their winning trend in the Depok regional elections.

This time, PKS paired Nur Mahmudi with Mohammad Idris, an old politician from the Justice Party. To make the nomination a success, PKS formed a coalition with the National Mandate Party (PAN), and was supported by the National Independence Bull Party (PNBK), the Pioneer Party, the Patriot Party and the Republican Party.

In the 2015 Depok regional elections, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) nominated Mohammad Idris Abdul Somad as a candidate for mayor, after the maximum two-term leadership rule prevented Nur Mahmudi Ismail from being re-nominated.

Even though he is not an internal party cadre, Idris, who once played politics with the Justice Party, has full support from PKS which is in coalition with the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), and is also supported by the Democratic Party. His partner is Pradi Supriatna from Gerindra.

The duet candidacy of Idris with Pradi by PKS and Gerindra succeeded in bringing Idris to power in Depok City, after they were determined to have received the most votes of 411,367 out of 664,453 voters whose ballots were declared valid in the 2015 Depok Regional Election.

Five years later, in the 2020 Depok City Pilkada, PKS won again by nominating Idris as a pair with their internal cadre, Imam Budi Hartono, for the Election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Depok for the 2020-2025 period.

Imam, who is Chairman of the Depok City PKS Regional Leadership Council for the 2020 to 2025 period, is also supported by the Democratic Party and the United Development Party (PPP) to pair up with Idris to win the 2020 Depok Regional Election.

Idris and Imam won after receiving the most votes, namely 415,657 out of 748,346 voters whose votes were declared valid in the 2020 Depok Regional Election.

But PKS’s winning streak was threatened to end after the General Election Commission (KPU) on December 2 determined the superiority of the votes of the pair Supian Suri and Chandra Rahmansyah who were supported by 12 parties, from the pair of candidates for mayor and deputy mayor who were supported by PKS and the Golkar Party, Imam Budi Hartono and Ririn A Rafiq.

Voters in Depok City who are registered in the Depok City KPU’s final voter list (DPT) are no longer inclined to vote for candidates promoted by PKS. It was proven that Imam, who was still Deputy Mayor of Depok when he was proposed to run as a candidate for Mayor of Depok for the 2025-2030 period, lost when he was paired with Ririn A Rafiq, the son-in-law of dangdut singer A Rafiq who was proposed by the Golkar Party.

Regional head candidate pair number 01, supported by PKS and the Golkar Party, received 396,863 valid votes. This result is still below the 451,785 votes obtained from 848,648 valid votes for pair number 02, Supian Suri and Chandra Rahmansyah in the 2024 Depok Regional Election.
