Profile of Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Deputy Speaker of the DPR 2024-2029
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has been re-elected to the leadership of the Indonesian People’s Representative Council (DPR) as deputy chairman for the 2024-2029 period. He became deputy chairman of the DPR and served as Coordinator for Political and Security Affairs or KORPOLKAM.
Previously, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad was elected as deputy chairman of the DPR RI 2019-2024 serving as Coordinator for Economic and Financial Affairs. Dasco was elected as deputy chairman of the DPR RI representing the Gerindra Party faction.
Now, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has been elected as one of the 5 leaders of the DPR RI for the 2024-2029 period, together with Adies Kadir (Golkar Party Faction), Saan Mustopa (NasDem Party Faction), Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal PKB Faction (PKB) as deputy chairman and Puan Maharani (PDI Perjuangan faction) as chairman of the DPR RI. The DPR RI leaders were nominated by the political party holding the most seats.
The name Sufmi Dasco Ahmad is often in the spotlight because he is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s trusted people in the Gerindra Party.
Currently, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad also serves as Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party DPP and Chair of the Prabowo-Gibran Synchronization Task Force.
This man, born in Bandung, West Java, on October 7 1967, entered the world of politics by joining the Gerindra Party. Dasco first became involved in the world of politics because of his close relationship with Fadli Zon, who previously had both been business partners.
Then, Dasco was actively involved when the Gerindra Party was founded. Since 2008, he has served as Chairman of the Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Gerindra Party and is believed to have held the position of Chairman of the Organization and Membership Division of the Gerindra Party DPP from 2008-2014.
His political career continued to improve, during the 2014 Legislative Election, Sufmi Dasco managed to qualify for Senayan as a member of the DPR RI for the 2014-2019 period who served in Commission III with a scope of work related to law, human rights and security.
Then, Sufmi Dasco was elected as Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI Honorary Court (MKD) on October 30 2014.
In the 2019 Legislative Election, Sufmi Dasco again ran for candidacy from the Banten III electoral district (dapil) as a Gerindra Party cadre and succeeded in qualifying again for Senayan as a member of the DPR RI and was elected as Deputy Chair of the DPR RI for the 2019-2024 period.
Apart from being an election participant, Sufmi Dasco was believed to have played an important role at that time, being appointed as Director of Advocacy and Law at the Gerindra National Winning Body.
Sufmi Dasco received trust regarding legal issues by the Gerindra Party. This cannot be separated from his scientific background in the law study program and as a senior politician in the party.
Sufmi Dasco has an educational background, graduating from a Bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Pancasila University in 1993. Then, he re-took his bachelor’s degree in Law at the University of Jakarta, graduating in 2009.
In 2012, Sufmi Dasco completed his master’s studies at the Faculty of Law at the Islamic University of Jakarta and continued his doctoral studies in Law at the Islamic University of Bandung, earning a doctorate in 2015.
Not only has he had a career in politics, Sufmi Dasco is also a lecturer at Pakuan University who is active in teaching the Legal Studies program and he has also been officially appointed as a Professor of Law at Pakuan University.
Apart from that, Sufmi Dasco is also involved in a number of organizations related to law, including serving on the Advisory Board of the People’s Lawyers Union in 2010, and the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Advocates Congress in 2011.
Sufmi Dasco also worked at the law firm Vendetta Law Firm as a senior partner from 2005 to 2013 and was Director of the Center for Election Dispute Studies in the 2011-2014 period.
