Profile of five-term DPR RI member Said Abdullah


Jakarta (ANTARA) – Said Abdullah set a record as the legislative candidate with the highest number of votes in Indonesia, he collected 528,815 votes in the East Java XI electoral district for the 2024-2029 period.

Said Abdullah is a political figure born in Sumenep, Madura. He spent his childhood and adolescence in that city.

All levels of formal education were completed in Sumenep, from elementary school to high school.

From a young age, Said Abdullah has shown an interest in the world of organizations. He is active in various activities, including the Intra-School Student Organization (OSIS). His perseverance in organizing led Said to join Banteng Muda Indonesia, which was his first step in the world of politics.

Said Abdullah’s political career began to stand out when he was trusted to serve as Chairman of the Banteng Muda Indonesia DPC, Sumenep Regency in the 1982–1985 period.

After that, he served as Secretary of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) Sumenep DPC in the 1983–1988 period, before then rising to become Deputy Chair of the Sumenep PDI DPC in the 1988–1992 period.

Not only active in politics, Said also served as Chairman of the DPC of the Indonesian Muslim Council of Sumenep Regency in 1984, showing his involvement in religious issues in his region.

His career at the national level began when he was elected as a member of the DPR RI from the PDI-P in the 2004 elections.

He successfully maintained this position for five consecutive terms, making him one of the politicians who is consistently trusted by the people.

In the 2009–2014 period, he sat on Commission VIII DPR RI, which deals with religious, social and women’s empowerment issues, a strategic commission that demands attention to the interests of the wider community.

Apart from his legislative work, Said Abdullah once ran for Deputy Governor of East Java in the 2013–2018 period. In this nomination, he accompanied Bambang DH, former Mayor of Surabaya.

Currently, Said Abdullah has returned to serve as a member of the DPR RI for the 2024–2029 period, increasing his track record to five terms in parliament.

Based on the wealth report reported by Said Abdullah on March 29 2024 for the 2023 period, the total value of his assets reached IDR 101.9 billion. This wealth consists of various types of assets, including land and buildings, motor vehicles, securities and cash and cash equivalents.
