With total wealth reach IDR 128.8 billionMeriani stands out as one of the candidates with fantastic assets in the 2024 Bengkulu Regional Election.
Extensive property holdings, large amounts of cash, and no debt reflect its financial stability and strength. This transparency is an important indicator in assessing the integrity of a regional leader candidate.
As a candidate for Deputy Governor, this report shows his commitment to comply with regulations and openness in administering a clean and accountable government.
Meriani’s decision to enter politics added a new dimension to his life journey. He had registered with several major parties in Bengkulu, such as the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the Democratic Party, and the National Awakening Party (PKB). However, support finally came from the Golkar Party which decided to pair him with Rohidin Mersyah as a candidate for Deputy Governor.
This step makes him one of the most considered candidates in the 2024 regional elections, considering the combination of his experience in the business sector with his ability to build political networks.
However, ironically, a few days before the simultaneous regional elections were held, the candidate for governor who was Merani’s running mate, Rohidin Mersyah, was suspected of having blackmailed his subordinates to finance his candidacy in the regional elections.
Rohidin was then named a suspect in a corruption case by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). In fact, Rohidin was caught in a sting operation (OTT) with cash confiscated worth IDR 7 billion.
This of course has a big impact on Meriani, it does not rule out the possibility that he will also be involved in this case.
