Profile of Rohidin Mersyah, governor and incumbent governor of Bengkulu
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Rohidin Mersyah, who also has the traditional title Rajo Agung II, is an experienced politician who is currently the Governor of Bengkulu and is running as a Candidate for Governor of Bengkulu in the 2024 regional elections.
He was born in Gelumbang, Manna City, South Bengkulu, on January 9 1970.
During his career, Rohidin has held various important positions in regional government and was active in various organizational activities.
Ironically, a few days before the simultaneous regional elections, Rohidin Mersyah was named a suspect in a corruption case by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). In fact, Rohidin was caught in a sting operation (OTT) with cash confiscated worth IDR 7 billion.
Rohidin Mersyah is suspected of having blackmailed his subordinates to finance his candidacy in the regional elections.

educational background
Rohidin Mersyah began his primary education at SD Negeri 13 Gelumbang, Manna, which he completed in 1984. He then continued his education to SMP Negeri 2 Manna and graduated in 1987. His upper secondary education was completed by attending SMA Negeri 3 Manna, and completed his studies in 1990.
For higher education, Rohidin studied at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and succeeded in obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1994.
He continued his Masters studies in Agribusiness Management at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) and obtained a degree in 2002. Not stopping there, Rohidin then completed his PhD in Natural Resources and Environmental Management at IPB in 2005.
Government career
Rohidin’s government career began as Head of the Animal Health Post (Poskeswan) in South Bengkulu Regency in 1998.
He then served as Head of the South Bengkulu Development Work Program Subdivision in 2006, followed by the position of Head of the Economic Planning Division of the South Bengkulu Bappeda in 2008 and Head of the Physical Infrastructure Planning Division in 2009.
Rohidin entered the world of politics more significantly when he served as Deputy Regent of South Bengkulu in the 2010–2015 period.
In 2016, he was elected as Deputy Governor of Bengkulu accompanying Ridwan Mukti. When Ridwan Mukti stumbled upon a legal case, Rohidin became Acting Governor of Bengkulu in 2017 until he was finally appointed as the definitive Governor of Bengkulu in 2018. He was re-elected for a second term in 2021, and served until 24 November 2024.
Organizational history
Apart from being active in government, Rohidin also has a long organizational track record. When he was young, he served as Deputy Chair of the OSIS at SMA Negeri 3 Manna (1988–1989) and Chair of the UGM Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Senate (1993–1994).
He was also active in the Yogyakarta Branch of the Islamic Student Association (HMI) as Chair of Education and Training (1994–1995).
At the regional level, he was Chairman of the South Bengkulu Muhammadiyah Leadership (2010–2015) and Chairman of the South Bengkulu 0701 Scout Branch Quarter (2010–2015).
Apart from that, he has served as Chairman of DPD I of the Bengkulu Golkar Party from 2017 until now.
Personal life
Rohidin Mersyah is married to Derta Wahyulin and has three children. Previously, he was known as a polite person and committed to regional development.
