Profile of Sahbirin Noor and his political journey in South Kalimantan
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Sahbirin Noor announced his resignation as Governor of South Kalimantan towards the end of his second term of office which will run from 2021 to 2024.
The resignation statement was delivered on Wednesday (11/13/2024) at the Idham Chalid Building, South Kalimantan Governor’s Office. This step is in the public spotlight, especially amidst the various government dynamics currently taking place in South Kalimantan.

Sahbirin Noor, better known as “Uncle Birin” is the Governor of South Kalimantan who has served since 2016.
Born in Banjarmasin on 12 November 1967, Sahbirin is the son of Abudssamad bin H. Arifin who comes from Martapura and Hj. Noorsyam which comes from the Andai River, Banjarmasin. He started his educational journey at MI TPI Budi Mulia and continued on to SMP Negeri 10 and SMA Negeri 5 Banjarmasin.
After completing high school, he continued his studies at the Muhammad Arsyad Al-Banjary Islamic University of Kalimantan, and then pursued further education at Putra Bangsa University and Lambung Mangkurat University.
Sahbirin Noor started his career in the world of government and politics through various experiences in various fields, which ultimately led him to the position of Governor of South Kalimantan.

During his term of office, he is known to have carried out development programs that focused on several issues, one of which was “floods, banyu then haja”. The “banjir, banyulalu haja” program promoted by Sahbirin Noor during his term as Governor of South Kalimantan focused on efforts to overcome floods and manage water resources.
In Banjar language, this phrase means “water flows smoothly.” This program includes initiatives to reduce the risk of floods that often hit South Kalimantan as well as optimizing water infrastructure, including canals, rivers and irrigation.
Through his work programs, Sahbirin continued to receive support from the local community so that he was re-elected as Governor of South Kalimantan in 2020.
Currently, his leadership is entering a new phase after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him a suspect in an alleged corruption case. In the midst of this controversy, Sahbirin’s resignation attracted even more attention, considering his position as a well-known and influential figure in South Kalimantan.
However, in the latest development, Sahbirin succeeded in winning the pretrial after the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court (PN) on Tuesday (12/11/2024) decided that the KPK’s determination of his suspect status was invalid. The judge also stated that the KPK’s status as suspect Sahbirin was null and void.
