Profile of Prof Dr Fauzan, former UMM chancellor who entered Prabowo’s cabinet
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Prof Dr Fauzan, former Chancellor of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is reported to be part of the cabinet formed by president-elect Prabowo Subianto. This was seen after his name was included in the list of 59 candidates for deputy ministers and agency heads who were invited to Prabowo’s residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV, Jakarta, on Tuesday (15/10/2024).
Prof. Fauzan is predicted to fill a strategic position as minister or deputy minister, who will play an important role in the fields of higher education, research and technology.
Prof. Dr. Fauzan MPd, who served as Chancellor of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) for two periods from 2016 to 2024, is a well-known figure in the world of education. He is also a UMM professor in the field of education and the initiator of the Community Development Mobilization Professor Program (P3M).

Fauzan’s career in the world of education began in 2000, when he served as Head of the UMM General Administration Bureau under the leadership of Prof Muhadjir Effendy, who at that time served as chancellor. Fauzan then served as Dean of the UMM Faculty of Education from 2009 to 2012. In 2016, he replaced Prof. Muhadjir Effendy as Chancellor of UMM until 2024.
During his tenure as chancellor, Prof Fauzan made many achievements. He succeeded in expanding UMM’s collaboration with various international educational institutions, thereby providing opportunities for students and lecturers to be involved in global collaboration. Under his leadership, UMM not only focuses on academic achievement but also on developing the soft skills of its graduates so they are ready to compete in the global market.
One of its best-known initiatives is the Community Development Mobilization Professor Program (P3M), where UMM professors are involved in community development, especially in the field of food production on the islands of Java and Bali. Apart from that, Prof Fauzan also introduced the Center of Excellence (CoE) program at UMM, this program aims to produce graduates who suit industry needs, especially in the digital, agricultural and marine sectors. Under this program, UMM formed 45 CoEs to prepare students to face the world of work directly.
In 2023, Fauzan will also be involved in politics as Deputy Chair of the National Campaign Team (TKN) for the Prabowo-Gibran pair in the 2024 Presidential Election. This role further strengthens his position as an important figure in the field of education and community development today.
