Complete profile of Presidential Chief of Staff AM Putranto


Jakarta (ANTARA) – On Sunday (20/10) evening, President Prabowo Subianto announced the appointment of Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) AM Putranto to serve as Chief of Presidential Staff in the Red and White Cabinet.

The announcement was made at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, by presenting various important figures who would serve in the government.

AM Putranto was then inaugurated along with other elected ministers and five heads of institutions on Monday (21/10) at the same place when it was announced.

The presidential chief of staff is included in the institutions that are not under the coordination of the coordinating minister, along with the attorney general, head of BIN, presidential communications office and cabinet secretary.

AM Putranto was previously the Special Assistant for Land Forces for Defense Equipment when Prabowo was Minister of Defense in the era of the 7th President Joko Widodo’s cabinet.

Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.) Anto Mukti Putranto, S.Sos., or better known AM Putranto was born in Jember, East Java on February 26 1964. He is a businessman, politician and retired high-ranking TNI Army officer.

Currently, he has served as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian President since 21 October 2024 under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. With a strong military background and rich experience, Putranto is one of the strategic figures in the current government.

Military education and career

AM Putranto began his military career after graduating from the Military Academy (Akmil) in 1987. He came from the Infantry Corps, which is known as a branch of the military with very challenging combat assignments.

Throughout his military career, Putranto has attended various military education, starting from basic education in the Infantry branch, advanced officer education, to the Army Staff and Command School (Seskoad) and the TNI Staff and Command School (Sesko TNI). Apart from military education at home, he also took international courses, such as Joint Readiness Training Center in the United States in 1997 and the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon in 2007-2008.

Military career

Putranto began his military career in the Airborne Infantry unit, with his first assignment to the 612/Modang Airborne Infantry Battalion. In 2000, he was trusted to be the Commander of the 433/Julu Siri Airborne Infantry Battalion in Makassar. Throughout his military career, he has occupied various strategic positions, both at home and abroad.

In 2007 to 2008, he was selected as Commander of the Garuda XXIII-B Contingent for the UNIFIL mission (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon).

This experience earned him an international reputation as a strong leader in UN peacekeeping missions. His career continued to climb, and in 2013, he was promoted to Brigadier General and served as Commander of the TNI PMPP (Peacekeeping Mission Center).

Apart from Indonesia, Putranto is also involved in various international missions, such as Peace Keeping Command Post Exercise “Cobra Gold” in Thailand in 2007 and the UN peace operation in Lebanon in 2007-2008.

Civilian career

After retiring from the military in 2022, AM Putranto did not leave the public world. He served as Special Assistant to the Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto for the Land Defense Equipment Sector. On October 21 2024, he was trusted to become Chief of Staff of the Indonesian President, where he was tasked with assisting President Prabowo Subianto in carrying out the government’s agenda.
