Thomas Djiwandono, candidate for deputy minister of finance in Prabowo’s cabinet

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Thomas Djiwandono is among the candidates for deputy minister of finance (wamenkeu) in the Prabowo-Gibran government cabinet. He attended a briefing on the duties of deputy ministerial candidates at President-Elect Prabowo’s residence, in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Thursday (17/10).

The President-Elect of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, plans to install three deputy ministers of finance (wamenkeu) to assist the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani who has been reassigned to his government cabinet. The three potential candidates for deputy minister of finance are Thomas Djiwandono, Suahasil Nazara, and Anggito Abimanyu.

Previously, the three figures had attended an invitation at the residence of President-Elect Prabowo Subianto, on Jalan Kertanegara, Jakarta, on Tuesday (15/10)

After the meeting, Thomas stated that he confirmed the President Elect’s plan to assign them as deputy ministers of finance.

“So, we as a trio were given the task of assisting the Minister of Finance (Minister of Finance) with his duties. “Earlier there were quite a lot of messages, one of which was optimizing state revenues,” said Thomas Djiwandono.

Currently, Thomas Djiwandono serves as Deputy Minister of Finance II in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019-2024 period, which was inaugurated on July 18 2024.

Profile of Thomas Djiwandono

Thomas M. Djiwandono or who is familiarly called Tommy, was born in Jakarta on May 7 1972. He is the first child of Soedradjad Djiwandono and Biantiningsih Miderawati.

Bianti herself is Prabowo Subianto’s older sister and her father Soedradjad once served as Governor of Bank Indonesia in the era of President Soeharto.

Thomas Djiwandono has a bachelor’s degree in History at Haverford College, Pennsylvania, United States.

Then, he took a Masters or Masters in International Relations and International Economics at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, Washington, United States.

Thomas also combined his career not far from his extended family in the fields of economics and politics.

His professional career began as an intern journalist at Tempo Magazine in 1993 and as a journalist at Indonesia Business Weekly in 1994.

Then, Thomas continued his career as a financial analyst at Whetlock NatWest Securities, Hong Kong.

In 2006, his career continued to develop when his uncle and Prabowo’s younger brother, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, asked him to help at the Arsari Group. On that occasion, he served as Deputy CEO of Arsari Group, an agribusiness company.

Meanwhile, in his political career, Thomas joined his uncle’s party, the Gerindra Party. He has served as General Treasurer of the Gerindra Party since 2014.

During the 2014 presidential election, when the Gerindra Party supported the Prabowo-Hatta pair, Tommy played an important role for the Red-White Coalition (KMP) for logistical needs. He always recorded the party’s financial activities very neatly.

Thanks to Tommy’s good performance, the Gerindra Party was able to get the best ranking as the political party with the most transparent financial reports. The Gerindra Party also received awards from Transparency International Indonesia and Indonesia Corruption Watch.
