How much is the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s pension?

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially ended his term of office after 10 years in office. The inauguration of Prabowo Subianto as the new President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 period marked the end of Jokowi’s reign, on Sunday.

After no longer serving as leader of the country, Jokowi has the right to receive pension money as a former president, in accordance with applicable regulations in Indonesia. So, how much is the President’s pension amount?

The rules regarding the provision of pension money are contained in Law (UU) Number 7 of 1978 concerning Financial/Administrative Rights of the President and Vice President and Former Presidents and Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia.

“The President and Vice President who honorably leave their positions are entitled to a pension,” reads Article 6 of Law Number 7 of 1978, the law states.

Based on this regulation, retired presidents will receive a basic pension amount of 100 percent of their last basic salary while still in office. In this case, the president’s basic salary is six times the basic salary of the highest state official.

The current basic salary for the highest state officials apart from the president and vice president is IDR 5,040,000 per month.

The salary amount is for high-ranking state officials at the level of Chairman of the MPR, Chairman of the DPR, Chairman of the Supreme Advisory Council, Chairman of the BPK, and Chairman of the Supreme Court. This is as stated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 75 of 2000.

This means that the amount of the last basic salary received by the president and the pension amount is 6 x IDR 5,040,000 = IDR 30,240,000 per month.

Apart from receiving the amount of pension money, the same regulations explain that retired presidents also receive a number of facilities, including:

  • Benefits in accordance with statutory regulations regarding pensions that apply to Civil Servants
  • Household costs relating to water, electricity and telephone usage
  • All health care costs for him and his family
  • A decent residence with equipment
  • State owned vehicle with driver
  • Personal staff, consisting of Civil Servants.
