Profile of Giring Ganesha, PSI Advisory Board candidate for deputy minister in Prabowo’s cabinet

His work with PSI, which was quite vocal, made Giring included in the list of potential deputy ministers for Prabowo’s cabinet. This was seen when Giring came to Prabowo’s residence on Tuesday (15/10).
It is predicted that Giring will carry out his duties side by side with Deputy General Chair Gerindra Fadli Zon in managing the nation’s cultural sector.
So, who is Giring Ganesha or Giring Nidji? The following is an explanation regarding the profile and background of the candidate for deputy minister in Prabowo’s cabinet.
Giring Ganesha Profile
Giring Ganesha was born in Jakarta on July 14 1983. His father is journalist Djumaryo Imam Muhni who has worked in various media, namely the Antara news agency, Astri magazine, and Berita Yudha daily. In 1978, his father received the title as Seroja Hero.
Giring studied at SMA Negeri 34 Jakarta and graduated in 2002. Then, he continued his education at the bachelor’s level in communications, majoring in International Relations at Paramadina University.
Giring took time off from college to focus on his musical career, so he did not finish college. In 2023, he decided to return to study at the Open University and succeeded in obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science.
His name became widely known when he became the vocalist of the popular band Nidji in the 2000s. The hit song sung was “Laskar Pelangi” and the soundtrack for the films 5 CM, Supernova, Tenggelam Kapal Van Der Wijck, and others.
In his singing career, Giring and his band have won many awards. The Nidji band often performs songs with positive messages, thus making their band closer to the fans.
Not only focusing on music, Giring is also involved in the world of film as a film actor or actress. Some of the films he has acted in are Sang Pencerah in 2010, Jiblal Traveler: Love Sparks in Korea in 2016, and the voice of the cartoon Paddle Pop Lion in the animated film Paddle Pop Kombatei The Movie.
Famous for his distinctive curly hair style, Giring often stars in advertisements, such as Hoda Revo fish, Djarum Coklat, Line, Coca Cola, Kopiko and Mie Sedap.
In 2017, Giring decided to leave his music and entertainment career and focus on the world of politics. He chose to enter the world of politics because he wanted to contribute to the nation and state.
During the 2014 presidential election, Giring was active as a volunteer supporting Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla. Not only that, in 2017 he also joined as a volunteer to support Ahok-Drajot Saeful. Until finally, he decided to join the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).
Active in the PSI party, Giring succeeded in winning the 2019 DPR-RI Legislative General Election by bagging 47 thousand votes. However, this opportunity failed because PSI did not cross the parliamentary threshold.
Giring felt disappointed with his failure, but tried to rise again in the world of politics. In the 2019-2024 period, he is trusted to serve as General Chair of PSI replacing Grace Natalie who has to pursue education in Singapore.
Then, it was predicted that Giring would run for office in the 2024 elections as a presidential candidate. However, he gave up his plans again.
Giring is also actively involved in organizations. One of them is an electronic sports organization or esports. Seeing his potential, he was trusted to become President Indonesia Esports Premier League (IESPL).
In this organization, Giring also initiated the formation of the league esports with PT Gajah Merah Terbang, part of the PT Merah Cipta Media group. He also held competitions for Indonesian electronic sports teams with prizes amounting to IDR 1 billion.
In 2020, Giring was elected as Chief Executive of the Menpora Esports Cup. The event was a successful activity esports the first largest in Indonesia.
Now, Giring seems to be more active in the world of politics with the PSI party. In September 2023, he was appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and his position as general chairman was replaced by Kaesang, President Jokowi’s youngest son.
