Profile of Gus Irfan Yusuf, candidate for Head of the Hajj and Umrah Agency


Jakarta (ANTARA) – President-elect Prabowo Subianto has invited a number of ministerial and deputy ministerial candidates to his house on Jalan Kertanegara, South Jakarta. One of the figures invited to the meeting came from East Java, namely Irfan Yusuf, grandson of the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), KH Hasyim Asy’ari.

Irfan said that President-elect Prabowo Subianto had given him special directions to manage the Hajj and Umrah Affairs Agency.

Later, Gus Irfan Yusuf as Chairman of the Agency will be accompanied by two other people who also manage the Hajj and Umrah, namely Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak and also Afriansyah Noor, who will serve as Deputy Head of the Agency at the Hajj and Umrah Agency.

Mochamad Irfan Yusuf or who is usually called Gus Irfan is one of the caretakers of an Islamic boarding school in Jombang and is the son of KH Yusuf Hasyim, who is the son of the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), KH Hasyim Asy’ari.

This man who was born in Jombang is 62 years old and received primary education in his native area. He completed his education at SMPP Jombang (now SMAN 2 Jombang) in 1981. After that, Gus Irfan continued his undergraduate education at Brawijaya University and graduated in 1985.

He then continued his master’s studies at the same university.

Currently, Gus Irfan has an important role at the NU Economic Institute (LPNU) as Deputy Chair.

In 1989, he was trusted to become the General Secretary of the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School. His long experience in the Islamic boarding school world also made him trusted as the President Commissioner of PT BPR Tebuiret from 1996 to 2016. Apart from that, Gus Irfan has led the Al-Farros Islamic Boarding School since 2006 and also taught at AKPER Widyagama Malang in 2013-2016.

His work in the world of politics began when he joined the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).

In 2018, Gus Irfan became spokesperson for the Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno team, after being assessed as having relevant experience at LPNU.

In the 2024 Indonesian legislative general election, he ran for the East Java VIII electoral district, winning 77,433 votes and was appointed as a member of the 2024–2029 People’s Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia.
