Profile of Maruarar Sirait, former PDI-P politician who entered Prabowo’s ministerial market
Jakarta (ANTARA) –
Gerindra party politician Maruarar Sirait was among the figures chosen by Prabowo to become ministers in his government cabinet.
Even though he is known to be close to President Jokowi during his 10 years in office, he has not had the opportunity to join his ministerial cabinet.
Now, Maruarar has been invited to attend Prabowo’s residence in South Jakarta as a gathering of ministerial candidates in the next era of government, considering that the inauguration of the 2024 President of the Republic of Indonesia will be held on October 20 2024.
Familiarly known as Ara, he has a strong background as a nationalist politician with long legislative experience.
So, who is Maruarar Sirait? The following is a profile regarding his background and career journey.
Profile of Maruarar Sirait
Maruarar Sirait was born in Medan, on December 23 1969, the son of Sabam Sirait. Ara has an educational background as a graduate of the Political Science Department, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung in 1996.
Not only studying, Ara is also active in organizations. With this organizational experience, he often gains knowledge and experience in negotiations and discussions in the world of politics.
Several organizations that have participated include the Bandung branch of the Indonesian Christian Student Movement (GMKI) and the Unpar Student Regiment.
Growing up in a family of politicians and also having a sharp mind in the world of politics, in 1999 Ara tried to start his political career by joining the PDI-P party.
This led him to serve as Commission
Ara’s figure is known for being firm, critical, royal and also militant. When there was an issue regarding the increase in fuel prices on April 1 2012, he explained the purpose of his party in making this decision. However, he also supports fuel prices not needing to rise and provides solutions, so as not to burden people from lower economic levels.
In 2023, he also gained great trust by being appointed as Chair of the Anti-Football Mafia Task Force (Satgas) by Erick Thohir to crush the match-fixing or Indonesian football mafia.
Ara’s appointment as chairman of this task force is not without reason, considering his track record as former chairman of the 2015-2019 Presidential Cup Steering Committee.
Apart from his career in politics, Mararuar is also the main commissioner of PT Potenza Sinergi and once held the position of Manager of the Student Large Family Cooperative (KKBM) at Unpar Bandung.
In 2024, Maruarar Sirait’s name is mentioned as one of the ministerial candidates in Prabowo Subianto’s cabinet. He said that his position in a ministry in the cabinet would require hard work.
His long and senior experience in the world of politics has made him the choice to fill one of the strategic positions in the upcoming new government.
