Profile of Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Health who Prabowo defended


Jakarta (ANTARA) – Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin was one of the figures who was also summoned by Prabowo Subianto to his residence on Jalan Kertanegara, South Jakarta, Monday (14/10).

This summons aims to discuss the composition of the cabinet that will be promoted by Prabowo Subianto as elected President in the future government.

Budi also revealed that President-Elect Prabowo Subianto appointed him to return as Minister of Health in his cabinet later.

“At first I wanted to say goodbye, apologize if there was a mistake, but apparently God wanted me again. “So enjoy the next five years with me with all the joy it brings,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin when closing his remarks at the event. topping off RSPON Jakarta, Tuesday (15/10).

Budi Gunadi also said that one of his future jobs will be to improve health services for health workers and make Indonesia a destination for treatment for the community.

Profile of Budi Gunadi Sadikin

Budi Gunadi Sadikin is an Indonesian professional and bureaucrat who serves as Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.

Born on May 6 1964 in Bogor, West Java, Budi is a figure who has a strong educational background and experience in the world of economics and banking before finally switching to the health sector.

The appointment of Budi as Minister of Health by President Joko Widodo on 23 December 2020 was a strategic step to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, considering his managerial capacity and ability to manage crises.

Education

Budi completed his undergraduate education in nuclear physics at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1988.

Even though his academic background focuses more on science, his career has developed in the economics and business sectors.

He took part in financial management and banking training at the Chartered Financial Consultat (CHFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) from the Singapore Insurance Institute in 2004.

Career in the world of banking

Budi Gunadi Sadikin started his career as Information Technology Staff at IBM Asia Pacific based in Tokyo, Japan.

After that, he continued his career at IBM Indonesia, where his last position was as Systems Integration & Professional Services Manager until 1994.

In the same year, Budi moved to Bank Bali and served in various important positions, including General Manager Electronic Banking, Chief General Manager for the Jakarta area, as well Chief General Manager Human Resources, which he held until 1999.

After leaving Bank Bali, Budi joined ABN Amro Bank Indonesia, where he served as Director Consumer Banking until 2004.

Next, he continued his career as Executive Vice President Consumer Banking at Bank Danamon, and served as Director at Adira Quantum Multi Finance.

He also served as President Director of Bank Mandiri, after previously serving as Director of Micro and Retail Banking. During his leadership at Bank Mandiri from 2013 to 2016, Budi succeeded in bringing the bank to a more solid position with various innovations in the field of digital banking.

Apart from that, Budi also served as Special Staff to the Minister of BUMN Rini Sumarno in 2016-2017, where he was trusted to lead the transformation of several strategic BUMNs.

Role in the Ministry of Health

Budi’s extensive experience in the world of banking and crisis management was the main consideration when President Joko Widodo asked him to lead the Ministry of Health in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even though he has no medical background, Budi is considered to have the management skills needed to overcome this unprecedented health crisis.

Under his leadership, the Ministry of Health initiated several important programs, including accelerating COVID-19 vaccination throughout Indonesia.

One of the significant steps taken by Budi was the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine and setting up a mass vaccination strategy in all corners of Indonesia.

Apart from that, he also focuses on strengthening the national health system, including improving health facilities in remote areas and increasing hospital capacity to treat COVID-19 patients.

Challenges and achievements

During his time as Minister of Health, Budi faced major challenges, ranging from a spike in COVID-19 cases to a vaccine logistics crisis.

However, with a data-based management approach and cross-sector collaboration, Budi succeeded in minimizing the impact of the pandemic and optimizing vaccination distribution throughout Indonesia.

Apart from focusing on the pandemic, Budi is also trying to increase digital transformation in the health sector, make it easier for people to access health services through digital technology, and encourage reform of the health system to make it more responsive to future crises.
