The figure of Bahlil Lahadalia, Jokowi’s minister who is on Prabowo’s radar
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, who is part of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet under the leadership of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, is now the center of attention in the world of politics.
It was previously known that as many as 49 figures were summoned to visit Prabowo’s residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV, Jakarta, on Monday (14/10), and Bahlil Lahadalia’s name emerged as a potential candidate to become a minister in the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet.
After meeting with Prabowo, Bahlil expressed his readiness to be appointed as minister in any position. However, he hopes to be able to fill a position that suits his skills and experience so far.
Previously, Bahlil served as Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). Currently, he serves as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

Profile and political career of Bahlil Lahadalia
Bahlil is not a new figure in government. Born in Banda, Maluku, on August 7 1976, he has made a brilliant career, especially in the economic sector. Before serving as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil was widely known as Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) since 2019.
Bahlil is the son of a father who worked as a construction worker and a mother as a washerwoman. These limitations shaped him into an independent and tough person.
While still in elementary school, he helped the family financially by selling cakes. At junior high school, he was a conductor, and in high school, he worked as a part-time public transportation driver.
With high enthusiasm, Bahlil successfully enrolled at the Port Numbay Jayapura College of Economics, Papua. Then, he took a Masters at Cendrawasih University and a Doctorate at the University of Indonesia.
During college, he was active in organizations, became a student senate administrator, and joined the Islamic Students Association (HMI), where he served as General Treasurer of PB HMI.
It didn’t stop there, in 2003, Bahlil joined the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) at the district, provincial and central levels.
After gaining organizational experience and having a high-paying job, he decided to leave and found his own company, which became the beginning of his success.
Seeing the potential for abundant natural resources in Papua, Bahlil used them to open a business. Currently, he owns 10 companies in various sectors under PT Rifa Capital as a holding company.
In 2015, his career further developed when he was elected as General Chair of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) for the 2015-2018 period at the HIPMI National Conference.
In his political career, Bahlil was once a member of the Golkar Party, but he resigned in 2009. He rejoined Golkar in 2024.
Bahlil served as Indonesian Minister of Investment starting April 28 2021. He was then appointed as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on August 19 2024 and as General Chair of the Golkar Party on August 21 2024.
It didn’t stop there, his name was back in the spotlight after meeting President-elect Prabowo Subianto. It is rumored that he will return to the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet as a ministerial candidate in that era of government.
