Puan Maharani’s profile – ANTARA News

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Puan Maharani is a female figure who has a big influence in the world of Indonesian politics. Her full name is Puan Maharani Nakshatra Kusyala Devi, she was born in Jakarta on September 6 1973 and is the daughter of the 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, and the granddaughter of the first President of Indonesia, Ir. Sukarno.

With a family background that has a long history in politics, Puan has grown up in an environment that encouraged her to pursue a career in the same field.

Education and political career

Puan completed her formal education at the University of Indonesia majoring in Mass Communication and earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1997.

After completing her studies, Puan began to get involved in politics by joining the banner of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), a political party founded by her mother, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Puan Maharani started her career as a member of the KNPI DPP for Foreign Affairs in 2006.

His political career began to gain attention in 2009 when he was elected as a member of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) from the PDI-P faction after winning the most votes in the Central Java region, namely Surakarta, Sukoharjo, Klaten and Boyolali.

His active performance in the DPR has made him increasingly recognized as a potential politician. In the 2014 election, Puan was re-elected as a member of the DPR with a significant vote gain.

In the same year, he was trusted to be the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) in President Joko Widodo’s first term cabinet.

Peak career in the DPR

In 2019, Puan Maharani recorded new history in her political journey by becoming Chair of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) for the 2019-2024 period. She is the first woman to hold this position in Indonesian political history.

As Chair of the DPR, Puan has a very important role in determining policy direction and decision making in the legislative body. Apart from that, he is also responsible for overseeing the running of the government, passing laws and voicing the aspirations of the people.

Under his leadership, the DPR has completed various important laws, although it has often faced criticism regarding the legislative process being considered rushed or not involving maximum public participation. Puan is known to have a firm leadership style, but still prioritizes dialogue and communication with various parties.

Public image and controversy

As a prominent political figure, Puan Maharani is not free from controversy. The political decisions he took, both when he served as Coordinating Minister for PMK and as Chairman of the DPR, often became the subject of debate among the public and political observers. One of the issues that has been in the spotlight is related to the discussion and ratification of a number of laws that have drawn protests from the public, such as the Job Creation Law.

However, Puan remains a strong figure on the national political scene. He is also seen as a potential candidate to follow in his mother’s footsteps in running for President of Indonesia in the future. Political support from PDI-P and her family’s political legacy provided significant capital for Puan to continue her political career.

Personal life

Outside the world of politics, Puan Maharani lives a relatively closed life. She is married to businessman Hapsoro Sukmonohadi, and has two children.

Even though she has a big responsibility as a politician, Puan still tries to maintain a balance between her personal life and her political career.
