Profile of Prananda Prabowo, Megawati’s son who is rarely in the public eye

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Prananda Prabowo is an important figure in the world of Indonesian politics, especially because of his role within the extended family of Indonesia’s 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

As the son of Megawati and grandson of the Proclaimer and first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, Prananda had a strategic position in political circles, especially within the PDI Perjuangan Party.

Family and educational background

His full name is H. Muhammad Prananda Prabowo, born on April 23 1970 as the child of the marriage of Megawati Soekarnoputri and First Lieutenant (Pnb) Surindro Supjarso, an Indonesian Air Force (AURI) pilot who died in a plane crash while on duty.

Prananda has an older sibling, namely Mohamad Rizki Pratama and a half-sister who is involved in politics, Puan Maharani.

Since childhood, Prananda grew up in a family environment that was very involved in Indonesian politics.

Although many things about his personal life are rarely exposed to the public, Prananda is known to have a fairly good educational background, although detailed information about his educational institutions is not widely known.

This man has a hobby of playing music and is an expert at playing bass. He also has a band called Rodinda which stands for Romantika, Dinamika, and Dialektika. The name of this band represents the principles of revolution that were often stated by Bung Karno in the past.

Political career and strategic position in PDI Perjuangan

Prananda began to show his political role when he joined the internal structure of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the party led by his mother, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

He first appeared when Megawati attended a press conference with Puan Maharani, ahead of the opening of the 2010 PDIP III Congress in Bali.

Prananda was also appointed as the drafter of Megawati’s political speeches. One speech that can show his political views is when he inserted a piece of advice from the Bhagavad Gita with the sound karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kada chana.

This piece of advice means “do all your obligations seriously without calculating profits and losses.” This speech was read at the opening of the 2010 PDIP III Congress and became one of Megawati’s speeches that received the most praise from various parties.

Currently, Prananda holds an important position as Head Situation Roomone of the units in PDI-P responsible for data analysis and political strategy formulation. Situation Room is a data and information center used to develop party campaign strategies, especially in facing elections.

Even though he does not directly enter the political stage and is rarely seen speaking in public, Prananda has a vital role behind the scenes. His expertise in data analysis and information technology makes him a key figure in party decision making, especially with regard to election winning strategies.

Leadership style

Unlike his sister, Puan Maharani, who is active in politics with the position of Chair of the Indonesian DPR, Prananda prefers a role behind the scenes.

His calm style and more technical focus make him a figure who may not be well known to the wider public, but is highly respected within the party.

Prananda’s presence behind the scenes shows that he prefers a strategic approach in the world of politics compared to playing a direct role as a public official or member of the legislature.

His managerial abilities and technical mastery made him an inseparable part of the PDI-P’s wheels.

Family relationships and political dynamics

As part of the extended Soekarno family, Prananda’s name has always been associated with the political carriage of the Soekarnois family.

This family has had a strong influence in Indonesian politics since independence. Even so, Prananda prefers to maintain his privacy and rarely appears in front of the media.

His presence on the Indonesian political scene strengthened the dominance of the Soekarno family within PDI-P, where big names such as Megawati Soekarnoputri, Puan Maharani, and Prananda Prabowo formed an important axis within the party.

Future potential

As a figure who works more behind the scenes, Prananda is often predicted to continue to play an important role in determining the direction of PDI-P in the future.

Speculation about whether he will go directly into the world of practical politics, following in the footsteps of his mother and sister, remains a big question among political observers.

On several occasions, Prananda was mentioned as one of the potential successors to Megawati in leadership of the party with the bull logo.

However, with a quieter leadership style, many think that Prananda is more comfortable behind the scenes, taking control of the strategic aspects of the party.
