Profile of Arinal Djunaidi who is running again in the 2024 Lampung Pilkada
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Arinal Djunaidi and Sutono are the candidate pair for governor and deputy governor in the 2024 Lampung Pilkada, competing with the pair Rahmat Mirzani and Jihan Nurlela.
This pair advanced as gubernatorial candidates after being nominated by the PDI Perjuangan (PDI-P) party, they registered with the Lampung KPU on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
The gubernatorial candidate from this candidate pair, namely Arinal Djunaidi, is the former Governor of Lampung for the 2019-2024 period.
Arinal was born in Tanjungkarang, Lampung on June 17, 1956. He came from a farming family in Way Kanan Regency. His father came from Negeri Batin and his mother came from Negeri Besar.
Arinal received his education at State Elementary School 17 Kampung Sawah Bandar Lampung (1964–1970), State Middle School 2 Bandar Lampung (1970–1971), and Tanjung Karang Senior High School of Agriculture (1971–1975, now State Vocational School PP Lampung).
Arinal then continued his education to a higher level by studying at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung (UNILA) and earned a Bachelor of Agriculture degree in 1981.
In 2023, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Economics from Unila.
During college and after graduating, Arinal was active in a number of organizations.
He was recorded as an administrator of the Student Council of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung (1978–1981), Chairman of the Student Senate of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung (1978–1980), General Chairman of the Lampung Islamic Student Association (1981–1982), Deputy Chairman of the Lampung Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (1982–1984), Joint Commissioner of the Lampung Indonesian National Construction Implementation (1983–1985), Deputy Chairman of the Lampung Indonesian Youth National Committee for two terms from 1985 to 1991, and General Secretary of the Lampung Indonesian Engineers Association for two terms from 1995 to 2002.
Arinal began his career in bureaucracy in 1986 as Head of Extension Section at the Bandar Lampung City Agriculture Service.
Four years later, he was promoted to Head of Extension Section at the Food Crops and Horticulture Department of Lampung Province.
In 1994, he was transferred to become Head of the Agribusiness Development Section in the same agency.
Then, in 1999, Arinal was appointed as Head of the Department of Agriculture, Food Crops and Horticulture of Metro City.
Three years later, the name of the agency changed to the Department of Agriculture. In 2005, he was promoted to Head of the Lampung Provincial Forestry Department.
Between 2010 and 2014, he changed positions every year in the Lampung Provincial Regional Secretariat, starting from Development Assistant (2010), Welfare Assistant (2011), Government Assistant (2012), until returning to being Welfare Assistant in 2013.
On July 17, 2014, he was appointed as Regional Secretary of Lampung Province by Governor Muhammad Ridho Ficardo.
Arinal then retired as a civil servant and regional secretary on June 30, 2016. After retiring, he became Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council of the Golkar Party (Golkar) in 2017.
In the 2018 Lampung gubernatorial election, Arinal ran for governor with support from the Golkar Party, the National Awakening Party, and the National Mandate Party, paired with the Regent of East Lampung, Chusnunia Chalim.
The pair managed to gain 37.78% of the vote in a competition with three other candidate pairs, defeating incumbent Muhammad Ridho Ficardo. Arinal and Chusnunia were then inaugurated on June 12, 2019.
Arinal served as Governor of Lampung in the 2019-2024 period. He is currently running again in the 2024 Lampung Pilkada and is supported by the PDIP Party.
